Memphis Made closing Cooper-Young location, consolidating operations Downtown

Memphis Made Brewing Co., which became just the fourth craft brewery in Memphis when it opened in 2013, is closing its original location in Midtown’s Cooper-Young neighborhood.

Memphis Made announced today that it is consolidating all its operations Downtown in its new Edge District facility, 435 Madison, where the brewery started making beer early last year.

Memphis Made will be opening a new taproom there sometime late next month, while also closing its Midtown taproom to focus on the downtown facility.

“We’ve needed a larger brewery for years, and this one will allow us to grow and produce even more styles of beer,” Andy Ashby, co-owner and sales manager, said in a release. “The new taproom will let us continue our mission of educating people about beer and making a positive impact on our city.”

The bigger brewing space Downtown has already allowed the company to expand distribution across Tennessee, Missouri, and North Mississippi.

“Our (Cooper-Young) lease was up for renewal, and our landlord was interested in the space for expanding one of his companies,” Ashby said. “It made sense for us to be in one location so we can streamline operations, focus our resources, and ultimately better serve our customers and community.”

The new taproom will overlook The Ravine, a park-like public gathering space developed by Development Services Group Inc. The site has hosted a Pickleball 901 pop-up, Paint Memphis, and 901 Day festivities, with more planned after the taproom opens. The Ravine has pedestrian entrances on Madison, Marshall, Union and Lauderdale.

“It’s bittersweet. We’ll definitely miss Cooper-Young, but we’re excited about the opportunities in The Ravine,” Drew Barton, president and head brewer, said. “It’s a very unique space, and we can’t wait for people to discover it.”

The new Memphis Made Downtown location is just a stone’s throw from the High Cotton Brewing Co. space that is transforming into a Flyway brewery.

The Memphis Made building was once a glass manufacturing company but had been vacant for years.

The production brewing space is right around 7,000 square feet and features a new 30-barrel system, additional fermentation tanks, and a new canning line.
