Astronaut Status, the barrel-aged, boozy stout from Wiseacre Brewing Co., is ready for lift off this week.
For 2024, Wiseacre will be releasing three versions of the limited-edition beer on Friday, Dec. 20, with a release party at the brewery’s OG location, 2783 Broad Avenue, starting at 1 p.m.
Astronaut Status, an imperial stout aged for 10 months in bourbon barrels, is the top-rated beer in Tennessee, according to Beer Advocate’s current rankings.
The three versions of Astronaut Status for 2024 are:
- Bourbon Barrel-Aged Astronaut Status Imperial Stout, with cinnamon and vanilla beans. 12.1% ABV.
- Nitrogenated Bourbon Barrel-Aged Astronaut Status Imperial Stout, with cinnamon and vanilla beans. 12.1% ABV,
- Wheated Bourbon Barrel-Aged Astronaut Status Imperial Stout, with cherry and almond. 12.8% ABV.
The release party will feature a limited quantity of Astronaut Status Chalice of Excess, made with the cherry/almond version.
Wiseacre made the switch from bottles to cans for Astronaut Status in 2023, and that strategy continues this year.
All three versions will be available for purchase in 4-packs of 12-oz. cans, plus they’ll be sold on draft.
However, draft of the nitro and cherry/almond versions will be very limited. And while Astronaut Status will be available at Wiseacre’s Downtown location, the nitro draft will only be sold on Broad.
