Memphis Made Brewing Co. is closing out the year with a Memphis deep cut — a collaborative, cask-conditioned holiday ale brewed at Boscos and headed to the Memphis Made taproom for a special tapping on Friday, Dec. 20.
The beer, Ice Storm of ’94, takes its name from the unforgettable December 1994 storm that coated Memphis in inches of ice, snapped thousands of trees, and left much of the city without power for days.
The beer itself — north of 7% ABV — is a Scottish ale infused with blackstrap molasses, whole clove cinnamon, persimmon peel, and nutmeg. Boscos head brewer Tyler Brown, who previously brewed at Memphis Made, brewed the beer on Boscos’ system.
For Memphis Made co-founder Andy Ashby, the cask release is something he’s been wanting to do for many years.
“I’ve just always wanted to do a cask-conditioned ale,” Ashby said. “When I graduated college, I lived in England for awhile and bartended at this bar called The Hope. They had cask ales and I always liked it. It always felt like a Christmas-sy type thing to do. And, yeah, finally we were able to do it.”
The Dec. 20 release party, with the tapping at 5 p.m., will feature live music from the Late Greats.
