Downtown Memphis’ Soul & Spirits is bringing back Ophelia, a 6.5% ABV Saison, as a spring offering for a second year.
Ryan Allen, Master Brewer and Soul & Spirits co-founder, described the beer as “light, effervescent, and highly drinkable, with a touch of spice.”
The beer pairs beautifully, he said, with crawfish, seafood, light salads, and lemon icebox pie.
“We try to stay as close to the farm as possible using Tennessee-grown barley and corn with a touch of Carolina-grown heritage rye. We let our house Belgian yeast create the fruity esters that compliment the spice of the rye and the dryness of corn,” Allen said. “Our hop blend brightens the beer with a touch of light citrus and apricot.”
Soul & Spirits is throwing a party on Saturday, April 8, from 1-6 p.m., to celebrate the return of Ophelia. Cousins Maine Lobster food truck will be onsite, and the brewery will be welcoming the Board to Beers pop-up mobile truck for the first time.
Ophelia will be available in Soul & Spirits’ taproom, but a few local retailers will also have the beer in a limited capacity, including Cordelia’s Market, Joe’s Wine & Liquor, Yorkshire Liquor, and Ceasar’s Wine and Liquor (package), as well as Hammer & Ale and Flying Saucer (draft).
The beer name was inspired by The Band’s song, “Ophelia.”
