After a hiatus from the core lineup at Memphis Made Brewing Co., Junt is back.
The locally-brewed cream ale, once a year-round staple from Memphis Made, is returning to bars and store shelves after a two-year absence.
The beer is back in Memphis Made’s year-round lineup, and the returning version of Junt has seen a slight change: its ABV has been bumped up to 5.5% from the original 4.5%, offering a bit more heft.
Meanwhile, the Gonerfest-inspired Gonerbraü Kveik Pilsner, is being retired, at least for now.
Junt is Memphis slang that can mean almost anything — a person, place, thing. Or a golden ale that pairs well with a variety of foods.
“People really like Junt. It’s more of a smoother, slightly sweeter beer,” said Andy Ashby, Memphis Made co-founder and sales manager. “People had been asking for awhile about it, and we just thought it was time to make the switch back.”
“Also, we’re Memphis Made Brewing Co., so we always try to focus on Memphis things and things that aren’t maybe mainstream … Like Memphis for Memphians. Junt definitely fits that.”
Memphis Made tapped the first batch of Junt in their Edge District taproom last week, and distribution of kegs to area bars is now underway.
As for cans, Memphis Made has been waiting on delivery of new Junt labels. After those come in, you’ll be seeing Junt on grocery store and liquor store shelves in 6-packs, possible as soon as next week.
