When the Arkansas State Red Wolves kick off the 2024 football season in Jonesboro on Saturday, Aug. 31, a special beer brewed in Memphis will be enjoyed on the sidelines.
Howlin’ Red Wolves Pilsner, made by Soul & Spirits Brewery, has been announced as the official craft beer of Arkansas State Athletics.
The beer will be available at Arkansas State home football, basketball and baseball games, and will also get some regional distribution in Northeast Arkansas.
“We’re not only excited to announce Howlin’ Red Wolves Pilsner as our official craft beer, but also proud that it uses ingredients produced in the state of Arkansas and was created by a brewery owned and operated by Arkansas State University alumni and supporters,” Jeff Purinton, Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics, said in a release.
“We want to thank the entire Soul & Spirts brewery team for their commitment to this endeavor, and we believe from the branding to the product itself, Howlin’ Red Wolves Pilsner will be a popular choice among A-State fans.”
Blair Perry, Soul & Spirits’ CEO and co-founder, is an Arkansas State graduate.
“This is an overwhelming moment for myself, as I graduated from A-State in 2004, and now I am creating the official craft beer for my alma mater exactly 20 years later. That is just really, really amazing,” Perry said.

About Howlin’ Red Wolves Pilsner
Howlin’ Red Wolves Pilsner, 4.3% ABV, is an easy-drinking American-style light lager.
Soul & Spirits used Arkansas-grown rice and traditional pilsner malt, and added Riwaka hops to give the beer some mild citrusy notes.
“We wanted to create an easy-drinking craft version of an American light lager beer for Arkansas State University using locally grown rice and selecting a newer, modern hop for a hint of citrus to enjoy while cheering on the Red Wolves,” said Ryan Allen, Soul & Spirits’ Master Brewer and co-founder.
The beer will be available to fans starting with the Red Wolves’ football home and season opener against Central Arkansas on Aug. 31 — on draft and in 16-ounce cans.
It will also be sold in stores and restaurants throughout the Northeast Arkansas region. The beer will be available in four-packs of 16-ounce cans and six-packs of 12-ounce cans.
A portion of the proceeds of the beer’s sales will benefit the Red Wolves Foundation.
