Memphis’ Soul & Spirits Brewery is paying tribute to the book fairs of your youth on Saturday, Aug. 12, with the “Skol-astic Adult Book Fair.”
This one, of course, will feature both books and beer.
Soul & Spirits co-founder Blair Perry is a lifelong reader, and memories of the Scholastic book fairs of her school days were an inspiration.
Instead of “Scholastic,” it’s “Skol-astic,” in a nod to the Scandinavian term for “cheers.”
“Reading holds a special place for me, and I’m just so excited to host something like this,” Perry said.
The book fair will feature many local book vendors, including Burke’s Book Store, Cafe Noir, DeMoir Books & Things, Friends of the Memphis Library, Novel and South Main Book Juggler. Local authors will be on hand, selling and signing their own books.
Mint Cream Market will be selling literary goodies, while food trucks Paper Plate Pavilion and Tacos MonDragon will have food for sale.
Soul & Spirits will even be brewing a special beer for the event.
For every beer purchased, guests will be entered into a raffle for Soul & Spirits swag and prizes from vendors.
Based on the social media response so far, Perry predicts the event might be Soul & Spirits’ biggest event to date.
“It’s going to be really, really cool. Literally every bookstore in town is going to be here,” she said.
The event will be free to attend and held at Soul & Spirits’ downtown brewery and taproom, 845 N. Main, from 1-7 p.m. on Aug. 12.
Perry is encouraging people to consider using a ride share or carpooling due to limited parking. Soul & Spirits will have street parking, as well parking in the brewery’s lot by the murals and garage doors, along with access to an overflow lot across the street.
