Crosstown Brewing Co.’s newest beer is a SMaSH — a “single malt and single hop” beer featuring Mosaic hops.

The Mosaic IPA goes on sale this week in Crosstown’s midtown taproom, 1264 Concourse Ave. It’s a special release that will be available for a limited time.

Mosaic hops, so named because of their complex characteristics, include floral, tropical, fruity and earthy notes. They’re a blend of Simcoe and Nugget hops and have been around for about a decade.

“We love Mosaic, but we haven’t used it much. This beer was a good opportunity to really showcase it,” said Clark Ortkiese, co-founder of Crosstown Brewing.

“They have a really nice earthy, berry thing going on that caught our attention. The hop was super popular a few years ago but kind of faded away.”

Crosstown is releasing the Mosaic IPA at its taproom on draft and in four-packs of 16-oz. cans to go on Friday, July 21, starting at noon. The beer will have very limited distribution in the Memphis area, as well.
